In taking apart Sachin, Gavaskar must have his reasons but I think foremost reason might have been that he has more faith in Sachin then in anybody else on this current Indian team. Gavaskar also feels frustrated as do all Indian fans worldwide and I am sure the players do too for not being able to finish off a heavy underdog Zimbabwean team and instead ending up losing a match to them.
Its human tendency to have more faith in people that are closer to you then the rest why otherwise would Gavaskar not point a finger at Saurav who hasn't been able to score a total of 100-145 odd runs in last 10-14 test innings. Some players just keep getting the benefit of sympathy while others even though they produce get the blame for not doing even better.
If I remember back, Gavaskar used to flash outside the off stump himself every now and then and gift his wicket away even in his hay days. I am pretty sure Sachin just doesn't do this out of enjoyment of doing it. Gavaskar's argument is that after being settled in and already scored half a century Sachin should not be making that kind of a shot. Well, is he implying that its ok. for Saurav to do so to the rising balls early in his innings because I didn't hear him say anything about Saurav's shots.
Steve Wright can only afford to get his side out of precarious situations because he only has to do it maybe once every ten matches and knows that his side won't collapse to any bowling with such consistency as do Indians. Sachin is expected to carry his team in every match.
